Sweeping the Dust

A New Year approaches

So stealthy and sly

With hopes we’ll forget

The year that went by.

It banks on our power

To turn a blind eye

And just walk along

Without asking why.

As the champagne is poured

And we make a toast

We raise up the things

That pleased us the most.

Forget the officials

Who live just to boast

Which politicians

They own coast to coast.

And please do not mention

Mass murder and war

That’s not what we came

To this party for.

We came with our push brooms

And opened the door

To sweep out the dust

And make room for more.
